Objectives
It is intended that UKDMOS is of use to a wide variety of needs including European Global Ocean Observing System (EuroGOOS), Environmental Research Funders Forum (ERFF), Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) and in particular provide a tool to assist the coordination of UK monitoring programmes for the UK Marine Monitoring and Assessment Strategy (UKMMAS). In particular to allow:
- policy makers and organisations to maintain an overview of monitoring programmes for which they are responsible,
- organisations to identify where resources may be better coordinated: e.g. where additional samples may be taken on behalf of another organisation or where ship time may be shared,
- an analysis of if data from UK monitoring programmes will be geographically and temporally sufficient to provide robust assessments of the marine environment for national and international legislation and objectives.
